A thrift shop find turned into a 2 week project to challenge my mold making abilities.
The clear casting, next to the original head.

Process

The teeth were masked to prevent the mold from locking, and I brushed a silicone glove mold onto the alligator head. This allowed for no witness lines on the end casting.

I reinforced it with burlap to prevent ripping during demolding, and created a plaster mother mold to contain the silicone glove.

The clear casting's unique tint was accomplished by adding equal parts red and yellow alcohol dyes from Copic marker refills to the B side of the urethane kit.

Final photography was done personally in my small home photo studio.
Throughout this process, I found myself thinking: How do we relate danger with color, and on the flip side, are there colors we perceive as submissive? What colors, patterns and textures do we think of as natural, and at what point does something become unnatural?
